March 23rd, 2009 Poker Player Profile: Chino Rheem

Chino Rheem made a big splash and name for himself in the 2008 World Series of Poker by being one of the only moderately established pros to make a deep run to the final table. Though Chino certainly experienced more than his share of fortunate luck along the way (catching very slim outs against other’s big hands), he more importantly exhibited a tight aggressive image that seems to have become the model pattern for doing well in major tournaments and cash games playing poker online: utilizing position and changing up your image frequently enough at the casino that it becomes hard for you opponent to put you on the hand (though most of the time, when you show up at the end game, you have it more often than not).

Many major online poker pros such as Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu had gone on record as saying Chino was their major pick for who would win the WSOP 2008. Though the didn’t quite make it happen, his run has no doubt established him as a young and excessively capable player in the new state of poker. He is certainly on the list now also as one of the more exciting players to watch as he continues to build on his WSOP showings, and will undoubtedly be a player you see showing up again and again.
