Naveen Jain, founder of Intelius and former CEO of InfoSpace, is one of Seattle’s most respected business leaders, is carving a name as an admirable philanthropist. He has fostered a personal commitment toward giving in his personal and professional capacity. The Indian-born Jain has been a steadfast supporter of various charitable causes – contributing to several Washington-based nonprofits that focus on youth, education, family, and basic needs advocacy. His wife Anu Jain is the vice president of community relations for both Intelius and his former company InfoSpace. Together, they have shared to the community through monetary donations and support in fundraising activities. They have contributed almost $480,000 in donations to various local and national nonprofits. Naveen Jain’s prominence in the Seattle business community complements his rising reputation as a philanthropist. Jain carved a name for himself as one of the most talented software developers while working for Microsoft for seven years (1989-1996). There, he was instrumental in developing operating system platforms and applications, which he holds patents of until now. He eventually formed his own company called InfoSpace, a content provider for Web properties such as Yahoo! and AOL. Extending his philanthropic aims, Jain has incorporated philanthropy into the company as well, establishing reward systems to encourage employees to contribute volunteer hours to their choice charities and organizations. In 2008, Intellius broke its own company philanthropic record by contributing almost $210,000 in cash and hours of volunteer work. Among its beneficiaries are Child Rights and You, Hopelink, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Overlake Service League, Tree House, Indian American Education Foundation, Kindering Center, the Bellevue Boys and Girls Club, and Olive Crest. Because of its exemplary corporate citizenship, Puget Sound Business Journal hailed the company as one of its “Top 15 Corporate Philanthropists.” In service to his native India, Naveen Jain has donated to causes advancing Indian culture and children’s welfare, having contributed $100,000 to the newly rebuilt Vedic Cultural Center in Sammamish, and supporting activities of children’s organizations CRY and Pratham.
