The highlight of my trip to the Lesser Antilles was the exciting Bajan Roots and Rhythms show that I attended at The Plantation in Barbados. This is the best dinner and dance show on the entire island. It is a cultural extravaganza filled with West Indian and Barbadian culture with colorful costumes, dances and music.
I was waiting all day for evening to set in so I could experience all the glitz and glamour of the show. It was quite unusual because for once I was the first one to arrive. A couple of other people had also gathered around waiting for the paying booths to open. As I began chatting with them I found a nice couple who were coincidentally from my hometown. They insisted that I share a table with them. I didn’t want to intrude but I couldn’t say no either.
We were allotted a table that was really close to the stage. At first, a band began to play some authentic Caribbean music. The restaurants buffet was open and all of us devoured the flying fish and cou cou. The spread was amazing and extremely diverse. The restaurant‘s desserts would make anyone weak in the knees. The band continued to play and before we knew it the MC had announced the show. A whole host of dancers came on stage in their exotic costumes. The explosion of color was offset by the dancers gyrating to the pulsating music. Some more dancers in African costumes joined them.
My favorites were the stilt walkers. They managed to dance, jump, and skip on those stilts. Finally, the limbo dancer pounced on stage. A rod of fire didn’t stop the dancer. At last, the audience was invited to try the limbo without the fire of course. I obviously jumped on stage first to try my first Barbadian limbo. As I was about to go under the rod I felt a shooting pain in my back. That’s when the party ended. Everyone was so concerned about me but fortunately I was fine.
In spite of the fact that I almost played spoilsport at the show, it was definitely one of the most amazing restaurants on my Barbados trip. Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off
