September 29th, 2009 A Curious TV Show

Curiosity killed the cat! The same is true for some serials which rely on keeping the full nature of the story hidden and revealing emotional / action / adventure / drama elements episode by episode to keep viewers tuning in to learn more and keep their curiosity level as high as possible. Often these shows employ recapping segments at the beginning and coming next at the end of each episode. Such shows also place a demand on viewers to tune in to every episode to follow the plot.

A successful example of such a series is Flashpoint. A TV serial with an emotional journey following the lives of members of the Strategic Response Unit as they solve criminal mysteries as hostage situations, bust gangs, and defuse bombs. They work by utilizing their training to get inside the heads of these people in order to make them reach their breaking point. Enrico Colantoni as Sgt. Gregory Parker leads the elite team on their missions. The show is based upon the experiences of the real life Toronto Police Emergency Task Force. It’s a unique unit that rescues hostages, busts gangs, defuses bombs, climbs the sides of buildings and talks down suicidal teens. Being members of a highly-skilled tactical team, they’re also trained in negotiating, profiling and getting inside the suspect’s head to diffuse the situation to try and save lives.

On August 26 2008, the show was renewed for a second season. The show originally aired on Friday evenings, but after episode 2 it swapped slots with Swingtown for the remainder of the season. Flashpoint is produced by Avamar Entertainment, CBS Paramount Network Television, CTV and Pink Sky Entertainment.
