Not so long a go it looked like laptops for gaming were exclusively procurable from certain companies and they were usually custom made. The systems were sold in small volumes but each unit had a massive profit margin. These desirable notebooks were just not affordable. Simply they were the best laptops available. Having said that many of us probably didn’t buy laptops of this type because of the price. Better established manufacturers have recently launched their own gaming notebooks so its all changing as I write this.

In my point of view they can get off by retailing them at an increased price if they wanted. It is a great chance for them to recover gross margins as the margins on normal notebooks are so tiny these days. They can also use their enormous marketing funds to sway buyers further into spending their savings or bringing out the charge cards to buy laptops like these ones. I don’t know what this will do to smaller companies but it will have a bad effect on them. I express this because now the technology which was once exclusive and high priced is now mass market. I think potential buyers will trust the larger manufacturers more if they purchase something costly.

With that these notebooks are in addition considered to be the best laptops already, even when they actually aren’t. This is probably the last thing that local competitors can give that the larger ones can’t. Most of the time the pre made units are good performers but not fast enough and a few consumers don’t like that. This kind of consumer is typically well versed in the technology and can compare the spec data. If you are buying the laptop for gaming then surely the power is the first concern. All game players agree that its a positive development. In the near future high end technology for your investment will be the result of this saturation. Who can predict what will happen. I’m really not sure anymore. I’m not confident if the overall price of notebooks will drop but new units are always at high starting prices. I reckon we will have to watch whether this saturation causes any significant positives for gamers.

Mixing everything The most common noises you’ll get rid of are things like
some one breathing, a note book page of rhymes being turned or better yet
the under lying tone of the room that starts build up as your track count
increases. Using the automation of your DAW is essential to this step.
Alternately you could edit out noise manually or try using a noise gate but right
now the MUTE button is the star so show it some love. Using the automated
mutes also makes it look cool when your mixes play back every one will thing
you a pro engineer.

The other secret and mysterious power of the mute button is using it to sculpt
the arrangement of your track. Use the mute button to turn of sounds during
sections of a track. Every instrument in a beat or song doesn’t need to play the
entire way through the track. Use the mute button to create breaks in the drum
patterns or open up sections of the song. Doing this will help add interest to
your mix and bring out the form of the song. Maybe if you just came out of a
heavy section of a song like the chorus you could mute out a few instruments
at the beginning of the verse so they dynamics of the track change and
contrast a bit. Then as the verse continues slowly add instruments back in
building back up to the chorus. The possibilities of what you can do with your
beats and songs in endless and so are the amount of interest it will add to your
mix.

Some people say that there are just many jobs that US citizens do not wish to do. I agree, there are many jobs that US Citizens do not wish to do, especially when unemployment is so low; under 5%. You do not see them paying the same amount of money they would to a college student working at the car wash or even providing benefits that they might to other employees. Many building service contractors are aware that green cleaning is a hot topic these days due to health and safety concerns by building owners and managers. We see increasing amounts of recycling bins in the buildings we clean, which is a sign that people are becoming more environmentally conscious. Steps are also being taken to reduce or eliminate the use of hazardous and toxic chemicals in many industries. If the cleaning products you are using contain any of the following chemicals, you may be putting yourself, your employees, your customers, and the environment at risk.

Nonylphenoxpolyethoxyethanol, Nonylphenols and NPE/APE surfactants:
These provide detergency to remove soil from a variety of surfaces. Although effective, they are petroleum-based products that may contain traces of ethylene oxide, which is a suspected carcinogen. NPE’s have been shown to cause disruption to the endocrine system in aquatic species and are suspected of doing so in humans. The endocrine system is a series of glands, including the male and female reproductive glands, which secrete hormones. Endocrine disruption may be linked to birth defects. You may find the above chemicals in air fresheners, all-purpose cleaners, carpet spotters, disinfectant cleaners, floor strippers, and washroom fixture cleaners.

Glycol Butyl Ethers:
This product is very effective on water-soluble dirt as well as water-insoluble oils and greases. The drawbacks are that it is very irritating to the respiratory tract and eyes. It also reacts violently with strong mineral acids and is not biodegradable. You may find this product in air fresheners, carpet spotters, floor finish removers, food service cleaners, glass cleaners and heavy-duty cleaners.

Phosphates:
Phosphates are used in products to soften water, maintain alkalinity levels, suspend dirt and increase cleaning efficiency. It can become an environmental hazard if dumped into a closed body of water, which leads to the potential for excessive algae growth. Excessive algae growth can lead to the depletion of oxygen levels and can eventually kill aquatic life. This product may be found in all-purpose cleaners, carpet spotters, disinfectant cleaners and heavy-duty cleaners.

Xylene:
Is a petroleum based product which is non biodegradable, flammable, must be disposed of as hazardous waste and requires solvent clean up. It is commonly used to reduce or thin solvent coatings such as concrete coatings. High levels of inhalation can cause loss of consciousness and even death. Exposure over long periods of time has the potential to cause damage to bone marrow eyes and stomach.

Dibutyl Phthalate:
This product is a known endocrine disrupter. It has shown to cause a high frequency of birth defects in some aquatic species. It is also suspected of having the same potential in humans. You can normally find this chemical in resilient tile coatings.

These are a few examples of the hazardous chemicals that may be found in conventional cleaning products. If you are concerned about what’s in the cleaning products you are using, consult your Material Safety Data Sheets. They should list the ingredients and the potential health and flammability risks.

Rumor has it that there will be a mandate to use environmentally preferable products in all federal buildings as early as this year. Shop carefully and you can find bargains like a three bedroom vacation rental in Big Sur, a few blocks from the beach, for as little as $40 per night. One caution, though. Be sure to check the fine print for what’s included in the rental price. Cleaning and per person fees can quickly add up and spiral that bargain basement price out the roof.

On a longer vacation trip, you’ll want to be sure that certain amenities are included. Your budget will thank you if laundry and kitchen facilities are included in the rental home you choose. The money that you save on restaurant meals and laundromats could easily add up to the admission fee to a nearby water park or a day of shopping in town.

As I was riding down the road last week, I noticed a billboard. As I sat waiting on a stoplight I kept staring at it. I couldn’t help wondering what those people were thinking when they created that thing. It made no sense to me whatsoever. The focus was completely off. They were spending all that money on a billboard that was practically useless.

That happens quite a bit with all types of advertising. Well-meaning people design and/or write ads that just don’t make good sense. For all their time and all their money they will likely get nothing in return. So, what did they do that was all wrong?

This particular billboard was for a realtor. Half of it was taken up with his photo. I understand photos… they help to create relationships and give people a face to put with an otherwise arbitrary name. But half the billboard? The photo should have definitely been much smaller.

The next biggest thing on the billboard was the realtor’s tag line. To be honest, I don’t remember what the tag line was… something pretty generic like “Serving your real estate needs for 15 years.” Nothing worth taking up all that space for.

Next… in about the same size font (type) as the tag line were the name of the real estate company and the realtor’s name.

Last - and in the smallest type - was the contact phone number. Hmmm… does something seem wrong to you?

Now let’s think about this. What is the purpose of putting up a billboard - or any other piece of advertising? To get people to respond. And how do people respond? In this case by contacting you. If I had a shot at redesigning this billboard, I would do a lot of things differently.

The biggest two things on the billboard would be the realtor’s name and his contact phone number. If a person driving by only got two pieces of information from this ad, I’d want it to be the name of who to contact and how.

Next, I’d want to see a tell-all tag line (USP - unique selling position). Something that sets this realtor apart from others. Something that tells me - as a prospect - that I need *this* guy to sell my house… not any of the other 6,000 realtors in my area.

Lastly, I’d work in the smaller photo, and the name of the realty company. Both are needed, but they don’t need to be as large as they were.

When you create any piece of advertising, you have to keep the end results in mind. What do you want to happen once a prospect sees your ad? In this case, the realtor wanted people to call him. Therefore, the contact information simply has to be prominent.

People driving past a billboard *may* have a total of 3 seconds of viewing time. Since this billboard was near a stoplight (great choice of location by the way), those who were stopped had a few more seconds, maybe even a minute, of viewing time, IF they noticed the billboard. (They may have been looking in the rearview mirror and yelling at their kids!) That means the focus has to be crystal clear.

When you create advertising pieces, be sure to keep your focus in mind. What do you want to accomplish with this ad? If every aspect does not lend itself in some way to getting the prospects to respond the way you need them to, consider reworking your ad.

Whether it’s billboards, postcards, Web sites, newspapers, magazines, or brochures keep your focus in check. Making it easy for the customer to buy will bring you maximum results.

Q: If I recently declared bankruptcy, can I bring a lawsuit for my injuries and then keep all the proceeds? My injuries have nothing to do with my bankrupcty, right?

A: Wrong. When you declare bankruptcy, you are required by law to list all your assets with the Court. If you even suspect that you might have a potential lawsuit (malpractice or personal injury case) you must list that as a potential asset. If you inadvertantly neglect to put this potential asset on your list, and you go to an attorney (and don’t tell him about your bankruptcy) who then starts your lawsuit, the defense has an absolute right to get a Court order to dismiss your case. (They will definitely learn about your bankruptcy sooner or later.) The reason is simple. When you declare bankruptcy, your bankruptcy ‘estate’ is no longer yours. A bankruptcy ‘trustee’ (a Court appointed lawyer) supervises how your assets are distributed - with Court approval.

Once you have declared bankruptcy, you are no longer legally capable of starting a lawsuit in your own name. The case must be started in the name of the bankruptcy trustee who must then hire an outside lawyer expereienced in malpractice or personal injury to handle your matter. If you are actually awarded money, either by a settlement or verdict, your attorney will receive a fee, the bankrupcty trustee will receive a fee, your creditors will be paid, and you will receive the remaining monies (in most cases) if there is any left to be distributed.

IF YOU HAVE DECLARED BANKRUPTCY WITHIN 10 YEARS, YOU MUST LET YOUR ATTORNEY KNOW THIS BEFORE YOU START ANY LAWSUIT.
